"We have used Yorkton Towing primarily for the transportation of airseeders/cultivators/air drills and harrow bars as well as other pieces of farm machinery for the past two years.

"During this time we have found them to provide a very satisfactory alternative to our own transporting of this equipment. We have found them to be professional and courteous, price competitive, and their equipment is well maintained and cared for.

"In our business, reputation is key, and we expect that from other companies that we utilize.

"Yorkton Towing meets if not exceeds this requirement. In fact, our experiences with them to date suggests that they have been able to transport our equipment with less difficulties than we would have experienced had we done it ourselves."

Winter driving tips:

  • Have the anti-freeze checked to ensure that it is good for the -35 to -40 Celsius winter nights;
  • Make sure your motor oil is the proper weight for winter driving;
  • Test the battery for life;
  • Clean the battery terminals to assure good cranking ability;
  • Check the charging system for adequate recharging capability;
  • Test the block heater, the cord that you plug it into, and the outlet.

After you've winterized...helpful hints to make sure your vehicle starts and stays running:

  • A battery warmer can help keep the cranking power at 80 per cent or more;
  • Dual block heaters or adding a dipstick heater will assure a thin oil on a cold morning. In-line water circulator heaters work very well, especially on propane-powered vehicles;
  • If your vehicle doesn't start right away, follow the manufacturers recommendations. For fuel injected vehicles, in most cases they advise that you don't pump the gas pedal.
  • If you don't get a quick start within 30 seconds, stop and rest the starter a minute. In order to conserve battery power, turn the key off and make sure no other power source is on. After a minute repeat the same procedure.
  • If you still don't have any success, call a tow truck. Continuing trying could increase the risk of damage to the starter and leave your battery low. The cold will then freeze the battery, and that means it won't work as well as it should for the rest of the winter.
  • If it did start, do not rev the engine. Let it idle and allow a good five minutes of warm-up to assure proper oil and water circulation. If you were to start driving too soon and then had to stop, the idle could drop too low and flood the engine.
  • If that happens, try to start normally. If that fails, the only time you should touch the gas pedal is to put it right to the floor and crank for 30 seconds or less. That may or may not work, but it's worth a try when you're stalled in the middle of the road.
  • If you have a cell phone, keep it charged in case you need to call us.

The
Yorkton Towing
story

Yorkton Towing was first established in the late 1970s. It changed hands twice before being purchased by Fred Sparrowhawk in July of 1991.

Fred and his wife-to-be Tracy successfully turned Yorkton Towing into the only towing and recovery firm in the Yorkton area; success that can be attributed to
hard work, long hours and dedicated employees.

Fred feels that any business is only as good as the people working in it, and Yorkton Towing has been fortunate to have "the best" in that category. Their dedication has given Yorkton Towing a well-respected name in the Parkland area.

Yorkton Towing has won several awards for its service, and is among the industry leaders for promoting safety and professionalism.

The Sparrowhawk family, which now includes son Daniel, hopes to continue that standard of service and excellence for many years to come.
